Ivan Rakitic gave Sevilla the lead through a controversial penalty but Toni Kroos' shot deflected of Eden Hazard to level the score in the injury time
Real Madrid came from behind twice to deny Sevilla three points at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium on Sunday night. Fernando opened the scoring for Sevilla mid-way through the first half. Asensio equalized for the home side in the second half. Ivan Rakitic gave Julen Lopetegui’s side the lead through a controversial penalty. Toni Kroos’ shot deflected of Eden Hazard in the final minutes to deny Sevilla the three points. Real Madrid missed the chance to go to the top of the table. Atletico Madrid and Barcelona had played out a goalless draw on Saturday.
Midfielder Fernando Reges slotted the ball past Thibaut Coutois in the 22nd minute to give Sevilla 1-0 lead. Ivan Rakitic headed down a cross from the left side to the feet of Fernando. Real Madrid are 2nd with 75 points from 35 games, level with Barcelona and two points behind Atletico Madrid. The defending champions could have taken a crucial lead in the title race as they have a better head to head record against both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. Sevilla are now six points adrift the league leaders. With just three games remaining, top three are separated by just two points.
