Real Betis and Valencia will lock horns for the 2022 Copa del title at the Estadio La Cartuja on Saturday. Two-time winner Betis overcame Rayo Vallecano 3-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals of the tournament, while Valencia beat Athletic Bilbao 2-1 over two legs to progress. Real Betis have won the Copa del Rey title in 1977 and 2005, while they have been runner-up on a further two occasions in 1931 and 1997. The Green and whites overcame CFI Alicante, Talavera and Real Valladolid in the early rounds of this season’s tournament before beating Sevilla and Real Sociedad respectively to make the semi-finals.
Betis defeated Rayo Vallecano 2-1 in the first leg of their semi-final, and a 1-1 draw in the second leg was enough to advance. Meanwhile Pellegrini’s side is heading into the title-decider on the back of a 1-0 defeat against Elche in the league fixture on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Valencia is heading into the contest off the back of successive La Liga defeats to Osasuna and Villarreal, which has seen them drop to 10th spot in the Spanish top flight.
The Bats won the competitions on eight occasions and their latest triumph came in 2019, beating Barcelona 2-1 in the final of the competition in Seville, while they have been runner-up on further nine occasions.
Jose Bordalas’ side overcame Utrillas, Arenteiro, FC Cartagena, Atletico Baleares, Cadiz and Athletic Bilbao to make it to the final. Meanwhile Valencia’s form in La Liga hasn’t been very great, having won just one of their last five matches.
However, Valencia would be hoping that their greater experience in terms of reaching the latter stages of this cup competition will stand them in good stead against Betis this weekend.
Real Betis will be without the services of Victor Camarasa and full-back Martin Montoya through injury, while Paul Akoukou will be missing following his red card against Elche in the League. Juanmi, Nabil Fekir and Sergio Canales will once again lead the attack.
As for Valencia, Maxi Gomez remains a doubt due to a toe problem, while Toni Lato and Gabriel Paulista will face late fitness tests, but Goncalo Guedes should be available following a knock.
Real Betis possible starting lineup: Silva, Bellerin, Pezzella, Bartra, Moreno, Rodriguez, Carvalho, Canales, Fekir, Juanmi, Iglesias.
Valencia possible starting lineup: Cillessen, Correia, Diakhaby, Guillamon, Gaya, Foulquier, Moriba, Racic, Soler, Gil, Guedes
The Copa del Rey final fixture between Real Betis and Valencia will take place at the Estadio de La Cartuja and it will kick-off at 01:30 am IST on Sunday, April 24.
