Manchester United’s summer transfer window has been going better than many anticipated at this stage of the season. The Red Devils have already made three quality first-team additions. It all started with Mason Mount arriving from fellow Premier League rivals Chelsea. Then came Andre Onana from Inter Milan, fresh from his exploits with helping Inter reach the Champions League final.

The latest one to join Manchester United is promising young talent Rasmus Hojlund. The Denmark international made the switch from Serie A side Atalanta. He is someone who has got the fans excited about for various reasons. Hojlund might just be 20 years of age but he already has enough experience under his belt both at club and international level. It is quite rare to see that from a young player.

What makes Hojlund special is his overall ability. He has everything a modern-day striker would need on the pitch. He is tall and is physically strong, which will suit the Premier League’s style of play. Add to it, the Danish striker has got excellent dribbling ability and good close control of the ball, which allows him to be reliable at linking up play. Not only can he play as a target man but can also excel at wide forward positions.

Another major positive to his game is the incredible pace Hojlund shows on the pitch. Earlier this year, Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini revealed a story about how quick the youngster can really be. “He is so quick, he’s under 11 seconds over 100 metres and that’s not even trying very hard. Considering his height, he has a low centre of gravity. I am convinced he’ll have a great career, he just gets stronger every day,” Gasperini had informed.

It is impressive to reach 100 metres under 11 seconds, something not many could do. When the new Manchester United striker was asked whether that data was accurate, he confirmed it. “Yeah, definitely. I don’t know if it’s like you stand with a watch every day on the side but when we came inside after the training, they said I had quite a high top speed,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

It will be interesting to see who among Hojlund or Marcus Rashford will be quicker in the coming season. The English international’s biggest strength has been his pace. He had clocked the fastest time for Man United on the pitch in 2022/23 season, registering almost 36 km/hour, according to the club’s website. Speaking about a potential challenge between them, Hojlund replied, “Yeah, I’m ready. Hopefully we can link up instead of competing but, yeah, when you compete on the training pitch you’re also going to be better together on the pitch.”
