Radamel Falcao is a professional footballer who plays as a forward for Rayo Vallecano and often captains the Colombia football team. Nicknamed “El Tigre” (Spanish for The Tiger), Falcao has played at various clubs like River Plate, AS Monaco, Manchester United and Porto among others. And today he has made a name for himself and likewise rose to the heights of sporting glory.
Falcao first kickstarted his footballing career with the Colombian Second Division club named Lanceros Boyacá, before moving to the Argentine club River Plate. There he played through the ranks of their youth academy for five years from 2001 to 2005. He later went on to win the 2007–08 Clausura tournament.
A year later, in 2009, he joined the Portuguese side, Porto. He even won trophies such as the Europa League and Primeira Liga double in 2011. He as well as became the club’s all-time top goalscorer in international club competitions and became the first Colombian to receive the Portuguese Golden Ball award. Radamel Falcao ended his stint at Porto after making over 50 appearances across all competition.
He then joined Atletico Madrid on loan in 2011 and even led the club to win a number of titles. Two years later, he signed a contract with Ligue 1 club Monaco. But several months later, he went to Premier League clubs Manchester United and Chelsea before returning to Monaco in the summer of 2016. He currently plays for Spanish club Rayo Vallecano after joining from Galatasaray in 2021.
At an international level, he has been considered one of the greatest Colombian footballers of all time. He has even represented his country in 2011, 2015, and 2019 Copa América and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
