According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional Barcelona might receive a surprise swap deal proposal from Paris Saint-Germain involving Sergio Aguero and Mauro Icardi. The Parisians are reportedly considering bringing in the 33-year-old striker from the Catalan club and offering Mauro Icardi as part of the deal. Aguero joined Barcelona from Manchester City this summer for free transfer. However he was sidelined with injury and made his debut this past weekend against Valencia. The Argentina international will now be looking forward to establishing a foothold in the first team at Camp Nou.

Aguero, who joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in July 2011 had a glittering decade-long stint with the English club, winning five Premier League titles and earning the golden boot award in the 2014/15 season. The Argentine scored 260 goals in all competitions for Manchester City and is the fourth highest goal scorer in Premier League history.

As per the report, PSG are eager to offload Icardi and have identified Aguero as a viable option. By bringing in Aguero from Barcelona they can appease Lionel Messi and Icardi could be a long-term option for the Catalan club. Since Barcelona are looking for young strikers like Dusan Vlahovic and Erling Haaland, this could be a very good deal for them, keeping in mind, the financial constraints they are facing.

The 28-year-old Icardi has been linked with a move to Newcastle in recent times. Meanwhile at Camp Nou the striker could make a mark for himself since leaving the La Masia academy almost a decade ago. Icardi had a very impressive six-year stint with Inter Milan before joining PSG in 2019.

Aguero’s immediate aim would be to help Barcelona win games

However, reports suggest that Barcelona are not interested in the swap deal that PSG might offer, as they are not interested in Icardi. Meanwhile Barcelona desperately need the services of a goal scorer at the moment and Aguero is a proven one who can do that role efficiently.

Now it needs to be seen, what decision Aguero makes, whether he decides to stay or chooses to join his international team mate and close friend Messi in Paris. As of now he is keen to make a mark for his new club.

Barcelona has had a very difficult season so far, losing the opening two Champions League group stage fixtures and are placed seventh in the La Liga points table with 15 points from 8 games. Therefore, Aguero’s immediate aim would be to help his team win matches.

Ronal Koeman’s side will next face Dynamo Kyiv in a must-win Champions League fixture on Wednesday before hosting Real Madrid on Sunday.
