Everton came from behind to snatch a 2-2 draw against Leicester City in the Premier League at the King Power Stadium. The game had everything from end-to-end action, to goals, misses, and a penalty save. Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford brilliantly denied James Maddison from the penalty spot just before the break to keep the visitors still in the tie. The action-packed encounter saw both teams gain advantage at some point in the game, however, there was not much to separate, as the match ended 2-2.

Sean Dyche, manager of Everton, was pleased with a lot of things they did, particularly with the chances they created. However, he was not able to understand how they went behind in the first half despite taking an early lead. “We dominated the chance count and getting quality service into the box. It was easy on the eye and we created good chances. The mentality was great, too. We made a couple of mistakes and I came off at half-time scratching my head [that we were losing] but that’s football,” he told evertontv.

“Then Jordan makes a great save but [the mistakes] are what we have to eradicate but there was lots of good in the performance and we have to take that in the four games coming up. There were two soft moments for us in a very strong half. You think of how that is possible but it’s football. But I thought the mentality of the players to take it on in the second half was one of the most pleasing things. We are making strides but we’ve got to make them quickly and tonight is a really big shift back to what we expect from each other. Now we’ve got to maintain that, we’ve got to go again with that same mentality.”

Sean Dyche on Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The Everton manager then shifted his attention to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored from the penalty spot in the early stages of the match. Dyche believed the English striker did a lot of things right on the night, as he played an important part for this team. On Calvert-Lewin, the manager said, “Dom’s looking fitter and sharper, he’s getting in the right areas again and he looks stronger and sharper, which is great. The whole feel of the performance – not just Dom – but the energy and the level of quality was really pleasing.”

One of the biggest concerns for Sean Dyche from that match would be an injury to their ever-reliable right back Seamus Coleman. At the start of the second half, he was taken off on a stretcher to the crowd’s dismay. The Everton manager believes his possible absence could be a big blow for them. “No news yet. It doesn’t look too good but we’ll wait and see. Obviously we hope it’s not too serious but we think it looks that way. He’s been terrific since I’ve been here and I’m sure before that. He’s bound to be a player that we miss with his all-round demeanour and understanding of the cause for Everton,” he stated.
