The UEFA Euro Qualifying match between Montenegro and Bulgaria will take place at Stadion Pod Goricom on Sunday at 9:30 pm IST.
Still in the race to secure a spot at Euro 2024, Montenegro is preparing to host Group G rivals Bulgaria in an upcoming qualifying clash at the Podgorica City Stadium this Sunday. While Bulgaria is currently trailing behind with just two points, placing them at the bottom of the five-team group, the Brave Falcons have an opportunity to move up to the top two positions if they secure a victory this weekend. Montenegro has only suffered defeat at the hands of neighboring Serbia in their first four European Championship qualifiers.
Having previously achieved a draw with Hungary and a win against Bulgaria, Montenegro entered this month’s international fixtures with four points from three games. An eventful match in Lithuania on Thursday added one more point to their tally, despite trailing by a goal in the final 15 minutes. Montenegro managed to equalize thanks to Nikola Krstovic. The Brave Falcons have only won once in their last nine matches, which was their 1-0 victory over Bulgaria in the previous outing. Consequently, manager Miodrag Radulovic is fully aware that nothing less than maximum points will be acceptable this weekend.
Bulgaria’s woes have continued this year, as they failed to secure promotion from League C of the UEFA Nations League and struggled in the Qatar 2022 qualifiers. Their misfortunes included a home loss to Montenegro in March and a 3-0 defeat by Group G leaders Hungary. Despite a friendly against Iran this week, where they failed to score and suffered a frustrating 1-0 home defeat, Bulgaria now has a chance to keep their hopes for Euro 2024 qualification alive. However, even a win against Montenegro would leave them facing an uphill battle in their remaining three games.
Montenegro’s probable starting lineup: Mijatovic, Marusic, Savic, Tomasevic, Radunovic, Jovovic, Jankovic, Scekic, Savicevic, Mugosa, Krstovic
Bulgaria’s probable starting lineup: Dyulgerov, Petkov, Krastev, Antov, Popov, Chochev, Gruev, Yordanov, Despodov, Borukov, Delev
