Manchester United will be keen to start the new Premier League season on a positive note than what they managed last time out. The Red Devils lost their opening two encounters a year ago, something they will look to put it behind them when the new campaign begins this weekend. United will play the final game of the opening weekend – home fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on Monday.

The Red Devils have also been busy in the transfer window, making three quality additions to the first team. Mason Mount arrived from Chelsea, Andre Onana joined from Inter Milan and the latest one is Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta. Despite Hojlund joining the club last week, it looks like he will not be available for some time due to a minor issue.

As expected, it was one of the first questions asked to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag ahead of their Premier League opener against Wolves. When asked about Hojlund’s fitness and how long he will be unavailable, ten Hag, quoted by the club’s website in his press conference said, “As we said previously, he had a small issue and he is not on the levels where our players are [at] in this moment. So now we have to train him. So the prognosis is difficult, always to say. We are confident and we are positive.”

Erik ten Hag then went into detail to explain about the squad availability and who all are out. He gave updates on Amad, Kobbie Mainoo, Tyrell Malacia, Dan Henderson and Anthony Martial. “Some issues you don’t mention, are from last season, like Malacia. He came into the season with an issue. We had 30 players on the tour and I think we are really fit. Disappointment, Amad. Disappointment, Kobbie, absolutely. But that is what happens when you go to the limits in top sport and top football,” he explained.

He added: “Injuries are not avoidable. But we have a strong squad and we can pick a strong team and I think that has shown in the last two games from the weekend against Lens, the number two of France last season, and against Athletic [Club] Bilbao on Sunday. We played two teams and two strong sides. We can tell we have more than 11 starting players.”

The Dutchman then informed how long they could be out of action, as the new season is just days away from beginning for them. “You go specific, Malacia will take some time, the same as Amad and Kobbie, they are really impact injuries. All the others, like Henderson and Hojlund, I think are quite short notice but short notice what is the definition of it? It will take a few weeks,” he stated.
