Manchester United did not have one of their best performances but they edged out a 1-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium on Sunday. The victory meant that United remained unbeaten in 28 straight Premier League away games, which is a new record. United fans have been in a good mood all week after the club announced that it had agreed a deal with Juventus to sign Cristiano Ronaldo. However, that positivity might have been dampened by what was an exceptional footballing display by Wolves. United did manage to hold on to all points but the hosts were by far the better side. They created more chances than United and looked more threatening going forward. Creativity in midfield is something that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will need to think about during the international break as that is one aspect in which the Red Devils are hopelessly lacking at the moment.

GREENWOOD ON FIRE

Mason Greenwood seems to be having his breakthrough season this year as he scored the winning goal in the 80th minute. In typical Greenwood fashion, the teenager stormed down the right-hand side of the pitch and fired a rocket past the Wolverhampton goalkeeper. He did get a touch on the ball but was beaten just by the sheer power that had been put into the strike. Greenwood has now scored three goals so far this season in as many games.

United currently sit third in the table ahead of European champions Chelsea and behind West Ham. They will face Newcastle United in their next game at Old Trafford. It is also likely to be the day when Ronaldo is finally unveiled in front of the fans at the Theatre of Dreams. However, the Red Devils have problems in other departments. A defensive midfielder is something that the club needed to sign in this window and it looks unlikely for them to pull it off as of yet.

Wolves put on an incredible show in front of their fans on the day. They might have had less possession but they were the ones creating the chances. The hosts had a total of 15 efforts on goal of which six were on target. United, on the other hand, had 10 with three on target. There were a number of opportunities for Wolves to go ahead and get the lead in the match.

WAN BISSAKA, DE GEA DENY WOLVES

In the first half, Aaron Wan Bissaka had to make an incredible goal-line clearance to keep the scores level. In the second, Wolves had a double chance from a corner and on any other day, they would have scored from that. However, David De Gea stood firm between the sticks and pulled off a monumental save. It could be even nominated as one of the saves of the season.

Fans saw both Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane start for the Red Devils. While Sancho had a quiet game, Varane displayed a brilliant defensive performance. His partnership in Maguire seems like a perfect match and he made a number of crucial interceptions that could have led to potential goal-scoring opportunities.
