There is no respite to Manchester United’s injury concerns. The Red Devils have plenty of their players out injured in several positions, with defence suffering the most of it. The latest player to join the injured players on the sidelines is Lisandro Martinez, who will have to undergo further surgery to fix his metatarsal injury. It means he will be out of action for a considerable period of time, not something the club supporters would want to hear.

Ahead of Manchester United’s Champions League clash with Galatasaray, Erik ten Hag informed that their reliable centre-back Lisandro Martinez will have to undergo further surgery to fix his injury. “I can confirm, yeah. Licha Martinez will have to undergo surgery,” the manager said in a press conference ahead of the Champions League meeting. Martinez established himself as an important player for the club last season. Hence, this latest setback will be a big blow for the club.

Earlier, Manchester United suffered a shock loss to Crystal Palace at home in the Premier League on Saturday. United dominated the possession but failed to create many meaningful opportunities. Erik ten Hag though refused to blame the players’ work rate as a reason for the defeat. “I can’t blame the players that they didn’t run, I think they gave everything. In the final part, in both boxes, we didn’t do well. We only conceded three chances and the three chances were all from set plays,” ten Hag, quoted by the club’s website, said during the post-match press conference.

He added: “That tells me we were in control. We were often in the final position in the final part, but as I just explained we didn’t make the right decisions, on and off the ball; that is of course very disappointing. We have to be more clinical and be more determined. So if you asked me that question, we have to be more clinical and determined to score a goal. You have to show more willingness to get more impact if you want to score a goal.”

The manager also refused to blame it on luck. “No, it is not a matter of luck, you cannot explain it like this. It’s the form on the day and as a team. We got into the right spot but you have to make the right decisions to create more. But even then, we created many occasions in front of goal and then you have to convert. I think we can only blame ourselves,” he stated.

Erik ten Hag was also informed that there were some boos during the final whistle after the defeat. When asked whether it was fair, he replied, “I understand when we play at home or away against Crystal Palace, we have to win. With all the respect, and I know every game in the Premier League is difficult, but you have to play your best. I understand fans are expecting a win, but we lost.”
