Manchester City supporters were treated to the exciting news of the club’s first-choice full-back Kyle Walker signing a contract extension. The English international was subject to interest from other clubs in the recently-ended transfer window. However, Walker not only refused to move away from the Etihad Stadium, he also extended his contract with the club until 2026. This development will undoubtedly be received positively by their supporters.

He was part of the Manchester City setup that won several titles since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium in 2017. The highlight for the club was last season when they won a historic treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles. After signing the new contract, Kyle Walker is determined to keep winning more. “We have no excuses. Everything that we have here, the facilities, the chefs, the kitmen, the nutritionists, it’s all top,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

He added: “So if they’re providing what they can do or at their very best it gives us no excuse not to go out and perform at our very best. There’s no excuses. And we should demand that from us as a group of players. We know that this club and this organisation has brought in the very best at what they do. So we just need to make sure that we turn up every game day, put them three points on the board and moving on to the next one. We don’t plan for the future. We plan for the present. And the present starts on Saturday against West Ham. We’ve had a perfect start, but we want to continue that now.”

Kyle Walker on new signings

The Premier League champions have been extremely busy in the recent transfer window, making some eye-catching signings. Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol, Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes arrived at the Etihad Stadium in the summer. Walker is understandably happy with the recruitment they have made in the window. “Josko [Gvardiol] is a Rolls-Royce of a centre-back. The age that he is and the quality that he shows on the ball and with the manager, I feel the world’s his oyster basically,” he explained.

The English international believes that Kovacic is massively experienced at the highest level and has played in several important games throughout his career. Hence, he is happy to have the Croatian with them for the campaign. “Kova[cic] has four Champions Leagues. He’s been in these high-pressure games before. So I feel that he can add something where he’s won it and he’s won it again. We haven’t done that so he can bring his experience to that front,” Walker stated.

He added: “Matheus, I saw him at Old Trafford when Man United played Wolves and I said to Bernardo and Ruben, this guy’s alright. Lo and behold, two weeks later, he’s in the building. Jeremy is quick and with Pep’s guidance again, I think he’s going to be fantastic. So I feel that it’s been a great transfer window. I feel that we’ve got the positions and the players in the right areas that we needed.”
