ISL: Kerala Blasters FC sign defender Harmanjot Khabra

A professional footballer since 2006, Khabra is a versatile player who can play both in defense and in midfield.

Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Kerala Blasters FC have announced the signing of defender Harmanjot Khabra. Khabra will represent the franchise for the upcoming seasons of the popular tournament till 2023. The defender has been a professional footballer since 2006. Khabra is a versatile player who can both in defence and midfield. The footballer started his youth career at the Tata Football Academy and has over 200 appearances in various tiers of Indian football. This includes the 4th highest number of appearances (102) in the ISL.

Sporting director Karolis Skinkys hailed Khabra as a player who can bring some much-needed experience to the Kerala-based franchise.

“Khabra is a player who can bring much needed experience to our team. I believe that his profile was one of the major pieces we were missing. His passion, versatility and leadership will be an immediate positive influence on our team,” he said.

Khabra signed his first professional contract with I-League side Sporting Club de Goa in the 2006-07 season. He had an excellent debut year as they reached the finals of the Federation Cup. The footballer was named as the most promising player of the year in the 2006 Durand Cup. Ahead of the 2009-10 I-League season, Khabra signed for East Bengal and made his continental debut in the 2010 AFC Cup.

After 7 successful years with East Bengal, he joined Chennaiyin FC in 2014. Khabra further went on to play an integral role in the side that made the semifinals of 2014 and won the championship in 2015. After three seasons at Chennaiyin FC, he moved to Bengaluru FC and played a key role in their 2018-19 ISL triumph.

The footballer becomes the fourth new signing this season at Kerala Blasters FC. Sanjeev Stalin, Hormipam Ruivah, and Vincy Barreto were the other players signed previously.

Recent addition of Vincy Barreto

The Kerala-based franchise recently announced the signing of Barretto on a three-year deal. The deal has been signed till 2024, with the young winger previously representing Gokulam Kerala FC before joining the KBFC. The twenty-one-year-old player began his career at the Dempo SC academy. He featured for the club in the U-18 league.

In 2017, Barretto signed his first senior contract with the reserve team of FC Goa, before going on to play for the club for over three years. The footballer was a key member of the squad that won the 2018-19 Goa Professional League, going on to make 17 appearances for the club in the domestic league and I-League second division in 2019-20. Baretto made 13 appearances for I-League team Gokulam Kerala FC in 2020, making his presence felt.
