Serie A leaders Inter Milan defeated bottom-placed Crotone 0-2 at the Stadia Ezia Scidia to move one step closer to title triumph. The defeat sealed Crotone’s relegation to Serie B. Christian Eriksen came off the bench to give the lead to Inter Milan. Achraf Hakimi scored in the injury time to seal the three points. Elsewhere, AC Milan beat Benevento 2-0 at home to reclaim the second spot in the Serie A points table.

Earlier, substitute Christian Eriksen got the first goal of the match with a deflected shot from just outside the penalty box. The Dane fired in a low shot past Crotone goalkeeper Cordaz after some lovely interplay between Inter Milan players on the edge of the penalty area.

Hakimi sealed the three points for Inter Milan in the injury time. The right-back finished off a quick counter-attack by the Nerazzurri’s. Prior to that Inter Milan were denied by the woodwork twice in the first half. Romelu Lukaku was again the most influential player for Inter on the night, as the Belgian hit the post once, denied a goal by the VAR and provided the assist for Eriksen’s goal.

The win took Antonio Conte’s men to 82 points from 34 games. They could seal their first title in ten years on Sunday if Atalanta fail to win against Sassuolo. Even if Atalanta win on Sunday, Inter need just one point from their remaining four games to win the Scudetto.

Milan back in the second spot

AC Milan Defeated Benevento courtesy of goals from Hakan Calhanoglu and Theo Hernandez. Chalhanoglu started and finished off a beautiful team goal in the sixth minute to give Milan a 1-0 lead at the San Siro.

On the hour mark, Hernandez provided a first time through ball to Ibrahimovic. The 39-year old striker’s shot from inside the penalty box was well saved by Benevento goalkeeper Montipo. But the rebound came into the path of Hernandez to slot it in and make it 2-0 for Milan.

The win helped Stefano Pioli’s side back into the second spot for now, above Atalanta, Napoli, and Juventus all of whom will play their 34th game on Sunday. The race for the Champions League qualification is heating up as six teams are in close contention for the three remaining spots.
