Chennaiyin FC defeated North East United FC 2-1 in the Indian Super League fixture at Nehru stadium in Fatorda on Saturday. The Highlanders went ahead through Laldanmawia Ralte in the first half before Chennaiyin scored two quick goals after the break to secure three points and move to the third spot in the points table. Ariel Borysluk equalized before Vladimir Koman scored the winner for the Super Machans. It was Chennaiyin’s fifth win of the season and took them to 18 points from 12 games.

Chennaiyin started the match brightly as eight minutes into the game, Valskis forced a brilliant save from NEUFC goalkeeper Mirshad Michu. Few minutes later, Anirudh Thapa cut inside from the left before playing the ball to Ninthoi on the right side of the box. But the unmarked winger ballooned his effort over the bar.

At the other end, Imran Khan did well to deliver a low cross for Suhair at the near post but the latter’s attempt missed the target. Chennaiyin forward Rahim Ali fluffed two easy chances within a space of a minute at the half-hour mark.

The first time, Koman sent in a loopy delivery and found Rahim unmarked but the Indian international hurriedly took a weak shot that rolled to the keeper. Moments later he received a long ball from the back and had only the keeper to beat but he took a heavy first touch and went off-target.

Khalid Jamil’s side broke the deadlock in the 35th minute as CFC goalkeeper Debjit made a weak attempt while clearing a corner and palmed the ball to Ralte in front of goal, who made no mistake as he tapped in from close range to put his side ahead. Seven minutes before the break, Suhair went past Slavko Damjanovic before testing Debjit at the near post.

Chennaiyin’s second-half comeback

In the 52nd minute, Chennaiyin equalised through Borysluk. The Polish midfielder’s low attempt from 25-yards out took a slight deflection off Sehnaj Singh before going past the goalkeeper and into the net.

Six minutes later, Koman scored the winner with a free-kick from the left flank that sailed into the far post. In response Suhair’s header from Marcelinho’s corner went just wide of goal. Few moments later, NEUFC once again came close to scoring from the set-piece.

This time it was Flottmann whose initial header hit the crossbar before firing just over the bar from the rebound. Debjit made a double save to keep out Marco Sahanek and Imran Khan. Sahanek’s curler from outside the box was brilliantly saved by Debjit before blocking Khan’s effort from close-range.
