It will be the first time in the history of the competition that a temporary venue will be used. The procurement process for the stadium began way back in 2017. It was officially launched in November 2021. Stadium 974 hosted five matches during the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup. The stadium has a capacity of around 40,000 people.

Fixtures to be held at Stadium 974

Stadium 974 is supposed to host five matches during the duration of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The first fixture to held there will be the group C encounter between Mexico and Poland. While, the last match will be the round of 16 fixture between the group G winners and group H runners up. This will also be the only knockout match that the stadium will host.
