The semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup was an absolute treat for fans across the world as France and Argentina booked their tickets to the biggest stage of the beautiful game, the world cup final. Argentina was up first against Croatia. While the Croats are one of the stronger teams in world football today, they stood no chance against the white and sky blue. Captain Lionel Messi was in impeccable form as he scored one and assisted another to hand his side a 3-0 victory.

On the other hand, France had to hold their breaths in their semi-final against Morocco. The African nation have shocked the world after reaching the last four of the competition but the defending champions proved to be just too strong for them. The score at the end of the match was 2-0 in Les Bleus’ favour.

Lionel Messi in sublime form (hit)

Messi tied Lothar Matthaeus of Germany for the most World Cup appearances after his 25th match. His inclusion in the starting lineup made this possible. Alvarez was fouled by Croatia’s Dominik Livakovic in the penalty spot, giving Argentina a wonderful chance to take the lead. Messi converted the penalty successfully. Croatia was successfully eliminated from the tournament in the 69th minute when Alvarez scored on a cutback after Messi eluded defender Gvardiol on the right and found his teammate in the box. It was another memorable game for Messi. As he connected the passes and typically found his teammates, the little magician acted as a playmaker.

The Moroccan dreams burns out (miss)

On Wednesday night, France defeated Morocco 2-0 in the World Cup semifinals at the Al Bayt Stadium, ending the African team’s incredible run in Qatar. In a close game, France, the defending champions, defeated Morocco, the team that made African World Cup history at the 2022 competition, thanks to goals from Theo Hernandez and Randal Kolo Muani. The World Cup final match between Argentina and Didier Deschamps’ team will be their first encounter after Argentina’s 3-0 win over Croatia on Tuesday.

Set up an enticing final (hit)

France will meet Argentina in the World Cup final after the defending champions beat Morocco on Wednesday night. There is a chance that the current champions will retain their title for the first time since 1962, as no team has done so since Brazil. Despite not always being the most well-liked person, Didier Deschamps is aiming for his third championship and second while leading the national team. That is quite an accomplishment considering how injured you were before the tournament.

For Argentina, any lingering questions about Lionel Messi’s commitment to the national team have been put to rest. It’s difficult to avoid drawing comparisons between the 35-year-performance old’s in Qatar and Diego Maradona’s form in 1986, when the latter helped his team to victory. It seems more and more likely that the story has already been written. Even in the 2014 final, the arguably greatest player of all time is closer than ever to winning the ultimate prize in his final World Cup.
