The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 is right around the corner as football fans can brace themselves for weeks of entertaining action. The current edition which is hosted in India will take place from 11th-30th October. The matches will happen across three cities, with supporters from India set to witness some of the best young talents in the world compete for glory. Notably, India is hosting a FIFA tournament for only the second time following the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup for men. With not long left before the 7th edition of the tournament kicks off, the football fever has virally spread across the host nation.

FIFA, however, announced that the event will be postponed and rescheduled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Later, that edition was cancelled, and India was chosen to host the competition in 2022. North Korea are the most successful team in the competition history, having lifted the trophy twice, including during the inaugural edition in 2008. Morocco and Tanzania make their debuts, as do hosts India.

A total of 16 teams qualified for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 which will take place in India from 11th-30th October. The top two teams of each group advance to the quarter-finals. In the case of tiebreakers, the advancing teams are determined by points obtained in all group matches, goal difference in all group matches and the number of goals scored in all group matches.
If still they cannot be separated, then other criteria are used to determine the teams that will be going through from the group. The eight teams will then fight in a knockout system, starting with the quarterfinals that will proceed till determining the winner and the third-placed team. The current edition will be hosted in three Indian states. They are Bhubaneswar, Odisha; Margao, Goa; and Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.
