The Fantasy Premier League is back in action for Gameweek 9 after the international break. Managers have been busy making adjustments and hoping that their key players return from international duty without any injuries. Ollie Watkins, who scored a hat-trick against Brighton before the break, has been the most popular player chosen by managers for Gameweek 9. But who are the top recommendations for this week?

Let’s take a look at the 5 players to target in Gameweek 9:

Mohamed Salah (12.6m) – Liverpool

Mohamed Salah, the highest-scoring player in the game, has five goals and four assists. He leads the midfielders in expected goals and is third overall in expected assists with 2.81. Liverpool, a strong attacking team, has a favorable home fixture against Everton. While Everton has been decent defensively, Liverpool is expected to score a few goals. Salah takes penalties and poses a significant goal and assist threat, making him the strong favorite to score in Gameweek 9.

Kieren Trippier (6.9m) – Newcastle United

Kieran Trippier has provided five assists this season, all of them coming in the last three matches. He currently leads in chances created among defenders with a total of 27 and has the highest expected assists in his position. Newcastle has been sturdy in defense, conceding only nine goals with an expected goals conceded of 8.7. The team’s attacking ability makes Trippier a valuable option for both offensive and defensive contributions, particularly since he takes many set-pieces. Newcastle is also expected to keep a clean sheet, which aligns with their strong underlying statistics.

Erling Haaland (14.0m) – Manchester City

Erling Haaland, with eight goals and one assist this season, has gone without scoring in the last two matches. However, he still boasts the highest expected goals in the league at 7.86, and it’s expected he’ll return to goal-scoring form soon. In Gameweek 9, Manchester City plays Brighton at the Etihad, where Haaland is likely to find the back of the net. Brighton’s defensive vulnerability is evident as they’ve conceded 16 goals. He’s a top choice for captaincy due to his consistent starts and penalty-taking duties.

Bryan Mbeumo (6.8m) – Brentford

Bryan Mbeumo has four goals this season but has recently struggled to find the net in his last four games. His underlying statistics are promising, with the second-highest expected goals among midfielders at 4.58 and an expected assists of 1.6. Brentford has a favorable fixture in Gameweek 9 against newly promoted Burnley, who have conceded the second most goals in the league. Mbeumo is a key player for Brentford, consistently starting and playing full matches, and is the primary penalty taker. Despite recent form, the fixture presents an opportunity for him to bounce back this week.

Heung-Min Son (9.4m) – Spurs

Heung-Min Son has scored six goals in the league and is the second-highest-scoring midfielder and he’s been playing as a central forward for Tottenham. Tottenham faces Fulham in Gameweek 9, and they have conceded 13 goals. Spurs are a great attacking team, having scored 18 goals, If Son continues in the central role, he’s likely to be their main goal-scorer. He’s a guaranteed starter and the primary penalty taker.
