Fantasy Premier League managers have gone through another Gameweek that was filled with unexpected outcomes, moments of joy and disappointment, thanks to surprising results, numerous red cards, and controversial incidents. As we approach Gameweek 9, it’s a fresh opportunity for managers to either reset their strategies or make adjustments to their teams in the hopes of achieving success in the upcoming matches.

A surprising turn of events has occurred as Erling Haaland has been unable to find the back of the net in recent weeks. This presents Fantasy Premier League managers with a chance to be unique in their captain selection for Gameweek 9. Manchester City’s forward hasn’t scored in his most recent three matches. This has opened up opportunities for other players to be considered for the captaincy. As a result, who should you consider as the top choices? We’ve identified the most promising candidates for the captaincy in the upcoming FPL Gameweek 9.

Erling Haaland

A home match against Brighton, a team that hasn’t kept a clean sheet this season, should give confidence to Erling Haaland’s owners, despite him not scoring in the last two games. Some Fantasy Premier League managers are thinking about dropping Haaland, but with his track record of 36 Premier League goals last season, he has the proven ability to excel.

Brighton is going through a tough period with just one point from their last two games and conceding eight goals. Haaland has scored in consecutive home games, leading with 15 significant goal-scoring opportunities this season, and he even scored twice in this fixture last season during a 3-1 win for Manchester City.

Mohamed Salah

On the other hand, Mohamed Salah has scored in every home game this season and is likely to continue that trend in the Merseyside derby, as Everton has kept only one clean sheet this season. Salah is in high spirits after his best performance of the season and remains the designated penalty taker for Liverpool, who have been awarded three spot-kicks so far.

Salah leads in creating big scoring chances this season with nine and is in excellent form with three goals and two assists in the last four gameweeks. He also has a good record against Everton, having scored in a 2-0 win against them in this fixture last season.

Son Heung-min

Tottenham’s midfielder Son Heung-min presents a tempting FPL option as he is now playing as a central striker and is the first choice for penalties. He has been highly productive in his new role, collecting the most FPL points of any player in the last five gameweeks with 46 and scoring six goals.

Their upcoming opponents, Fulham, have allowed 25 goal-scoring opportunities this season, conceding 13 of them, and are likely to face waves of attacks from Tottenham. Ange Postecoglou’s team, currently in the Premier League has taken the most shots at the goal, with 153 attempts, more than any other side.
