Injury updates are a big hindrance for FPL Gameweeks and now as Trent Alexander-Arnold, a key defender and a popular choice among fantasy managers, is sidelined due to a recurring knee problem. This setback forces managers to shift their focus to alternative defensive options to score points for the upcoming weekend. Here are the best potential replacements for Alexander-Arnold in FPL Gameweek 25:

Virgil van Dijk

A suitable like-for-like replacement for Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk stands out, especially considering Liverpool’s impressive record of eight clean sheets this season, ranking them second in the league. Van Dijk, Liverpool’s captain, has been a pivotal figure for Liverpool, contributing to their defensive security with five clean sheets at Anfield, including one against Brentford in the reverse fixture. Given Liverpool’s hectic schedule over the next few days, also playing in the Carabao Cup final, Van Dijk emerges as the most logical defender to get most of the minutes during the double gameweek. It’s important to note that Liverpool has a blank in Gameweek 26.

Sergio Reguilon

Considering the upcoming fixtures and the frequency of Brentford’s matches over the next five gameweeks, Brentford defenders become popular options despite a couple of blank gameweeks for other teams. Sergio Reguilon, a wing-back for Brentford, is particularly famous following a recent clean sheet against Wolves. Notably, he secured his first attacking return of the season in a 2-0 away win. Reguilon operates in an advanced role, showcasing potential for attacking returns, and plays a key role in set-piece situations, taking corners for Brentford.

Nathan Ake

Opting for a Manchester City player is considered a safe move this week, and Nathan Ake emerges as a secure option. He has been the highest-scoring defender for Manchester City this season. With two home games in the upcoming gameweek, Ake offers potential for clean sheets, especially with four out of City’s six clean sheets coming at the Etihad. Ake has also been quite attacking this season, having been involved in five goals this campaign. His recent assist against Everton shows his ability to contribute both defensively and offensively. Moreover, Ake has been a consistent presence in Pep Guardiola’s defensive lineup in the last two months.
