Pervis Estupinan is the defender with the highest ownership in Fantasy Premier League, present in 55 percent of teams. However, this ownership is experiencing a rapid decline, as a significant 631,000 managers have sold the Brighton & Hove Albion left-back in the past one week. This decision follows the news of his one-month absence, as confirmed by head coach Roberto De Zerbi on Wednesday.

With Brighton’s left-back injured, let’s take a look at the best possible replacements for Estupinan in Fantasy Premier League.

Kieran Trippier (Newcastle) 6.8m

Newcastle United’s right-back is finally proving his worth with impressive performances, earning 18 and 12 points in the past two Gameweeks. Trippier currently holds the title of the Premier League’s top creator, having made 22 key passes, partly due to his role as the primary set-piece taker for the Magpies. If budget is not an issue, Trippier stands out as an ideal replacement for Estupinan, thanks to his ability to contribute both defensively and offensively, including bonus points. With Newcastle’s upcoming fixtures, he has the potential to continue rewarding his rapidly growing ownership, which currently stands at 45 percent. According to the Fixture Difficulty Ratings (FDR), three of their next five matches are rated as only two.

Fabian Schar (Newcastle) 5.1m

A more budget-friendly alternative, especially with Sven Botman being uncertain for Gameweek 8. Schar has been somewhat overshadowed by Trippier’s recent performances but has still managed to accumulate 20 points in the last three Gameweeks, combining three clean sheets with two bonus points. While he hasn’t found the net this season, Schar reminded managers of his attacking ability with a goal against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League recently.

Pedro Porro (Spurs) 5.1m

Porro has showcased a significantly higher attacking threat compared to his fellow Tottenham Hotspur full-back Destiny Udogie under Ange Postecoglou. Since his first start in Gameweek 2, Porro has outperformed Udogie with nine shots to one and ten chances created to six. The right-back has been a consistent source of returns, blanking in just two of his six starts, thanks to two assists and two clean sheets. According to the FDR, four of Spurs’ next five matches are rated as only two.

Matty Cash (Aston Villa) 5m

He has been the most prominent goal threat among defenders in the first seven Gameweeks of the 2023/24 season. His statistics, including 14 shots, 11 shots inside the box, and seven shots on target, lead the way in his position in Fantasy. With two goals, an assist, two clean sheets, and four bonus points, Cash offers multiple sources to collect points, especially considering Villa’s upcoming favorable fixtures. Each of Villa’s next five matches is rated as only two in the FDR.

Joachim Andersen (Crystal Palace) 4.8m

Crystal Palace defender has made a significant impact at both ends of the pitch, getting him to the top of the defender standings with 45 points. Andersen has scored twice and recorded three clean sheets, while his nine bonus points are the highest in Fantasy. His six shots inside the box rank joint-third among defenders, and his eight key passes are just one less than Manchester City’s Kyle Walker. Four of Palace’s next six matches, including their upcoming home encounter with Nottingham Forest, are rated as only two in the FDR.
