Arsenal continued their resurgence as they beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Emirates stadium on Sunday. It was a first half glitz from Mikel Arteta’s side that saw them score three goals inside 35 minutes. Emil Smith Rowe opened the scoring before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finished off a brilliant counter attack. Bukayo Saka completed the drubbing with a third after Harry Kane was dispossessed outside Arsenal penalty area. Although Son Heung-min pulled on back for  Nuno Espírito Santo’s side it proved to be just a consolation. Arsenal have now won three consecutive league games whereas Spurs have lost three.

Within 12 minutes of kick-off, Saka went past left-back Sergio Reguilón with a step-over before delivering a low cross for Smith Rowe to slot in with a first time finish. Few minutes later, Thomas Partey and Aubameyang tested Spurs custodian Hugo Lloris from distance. At the other end, Son won the ball in the middle of the park and raced forward before forcing a save out of Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale at the near post.

Arsenal’s second goal came three minutes before the half-hour-mark. Aubameyang released Smith Rowe with a perfectly cushioned first touch pass on the half-way mark. The Gabon international raced forward to get on the end of Smith Rowe’s cut back before slotting the ball past Lloris and into the Spurs goal.

Saka scored the third goal in the 34th minute after Kane made a desperate sliding tackle to recover the ball possession but it fell kindly to his England compatriot, who angled a shot past Lloris.

Before the break, Kane got a free header from a corner but the Englishman’s attempt went wide. Nuno replaced Dele Ali and Japhet Tanganga at half-time. Tottenham played with a bit more intent in the second half. On the hour-mark, Kane tested Ramsdale with a low dipping shot from outside the box. The Englishman got a glorious opportunity after a rare defensive slip from Arsenal gave him a one-on-one situation with Ramsdale. But his lofted attempt went wide. That summed up the Kane’s season so far.

Ramsdale, who was having a very good game, couldn’t keep a clean sheet as Son scored a goal 11 minutes from time. And then, the 23-year-old goalkeeper made a brilliant save to deny Lucas Moura from outside the box in stoppage time.

Convincing from Arsenal, Spurs’ misery continues

It was a convincing performance from the home side as they were clinical up front and defended pretty well to earn the three points. Arteta seems to have got the right combination as Smith Rowe, Aubameyang and Saka are combining well.

“This win is for the fans,” Arsenal manager Arteta told Sky Sports. “They were incredible in tough moments when we needed their support.

“It doesn’t get much better than the atmosphere we saw here today. It was one of the nicest feelings I had, certainly in this stadium.

“It was a big occasion, to win it the way we did, and to feel that connection with team and supporters made it really special.

“It’s impossible to attract people and connect with what we’re trying to do if we don’t have fans here. It makes such a difference. We want to entertain them and play in a way that makes them proud.”

Meanwhile Nuno’s misery continues as they have now conceded nine goals in three league games and scored only one. Kane looks out of form and the defence is not solid enough. The Portuguese boss has issues to solve and Kane’s form would be the most important one.

The win takes Arsenal to tenth spot in the table with nine points from six games whereas Tottenham are one place behind them with the same number of points.
