Leeds United have signed an exciting young full-back Djed Spence on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. Spence, who is just 23 years of age, will be a welcome addition at Elland Road. Leeds have been busy in the transfer window and Spence will become the club’s sixth summer arrival. This move will also see a reunion with his former Tottenham and Rennes teammate Joe Rodon. He is also on a season-long loan from Spurs.

The new arrival, Djed Spence, could make his first appearance for Leeds United against Sheffield Wednesday in Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship contest. After completing his season-long loan deal from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur, the 23-year-old full-back spoke about his excitement to be at this club. He also revealed his conversation with manager Daniel Farke before joining the club.

Djed Spence on Daniel Farke

“It’s good to be here and I can’t wait to get started. It’s a big club, obviously there’s a good squad and there is ambition at the club to get back to the Premier League. I just want to get playing again. There’s a good manager here, I’ve heard a lot about him and way he wants to play attacking football. I think that will suit my style of football. I’ve spoken to him [Daniel Farke] and he’s orchestrated in the way he wants to play, it sounded good and for me it was the right decision,” he told LUTV.

Spence then spoke about his delight at having a familiar figure in the form of Rodon at his new club. “Yeah, I know Joe from my parent club [Tottenham Hotspur] and from when I was out on loan last season [at Rennes, in Ligue 1]. It’s good to have him in the building as well, someone that I know. It’s just exciting now to join the team and hopefully I can impress everyone here. I’m looking forward to playing at Elland Road, I’ve heard a lot about the fans. They are meant to be very loud. We want to win as many games as we can now,” he explained.

Daniel Farke on Carabao Cup exit

Leeds United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Salford City. After the game ended 1-1 in regulation time, Salford won the contest in a thrilling penalty shootout. Leeds manager Daniel Farke was understandably disappointed with the result, as he rued the missed opportunities. “First of all we are disappointed, because we wanted to go into the next round. I feel for the lads, when you judge the game, normally you need to win this game,” he told LUTV.

“It was an incredible amount of chances that we have created, it’s so difficult to create big chances against a side who is sitting that deep and defends for their lives and for them, it is the game of the season. We created so much, it felt like we had enough chances to score five by half time, but the reality is we just scored one in 90 minutes. The opponent was one time in our half and they also scored one and we had to accept the draw after 99 minutes with added time and the loss in the penalty shootout. It’s disappointing for the lads, but performance wise I can’t really accuse them.”
