This has been a strange season for Chelsea in many ways. On the back of the disappointing 2022-23 season, the Blues made a massive rebuild last summer. Plenty of players joined the club and a lot of them also left the team. They even signed a new manager, with Mauricio Pochettino getting on board to start the Chelsea revolution. However, it did not work out the way many expected things to happen.
Chelsea’s struggles continued and they were inconsistent for most of the campaign. The Blues found more joy in cup competitions by reaching the final of the Carabao Cup before losing it to Liverpool and also went deep in the FA Cup. Surprisingly though Chelsea found their form towards the end of the campaign and finished the season with an impressive winning streak. This helped the Blues to climb from mid-table positions into a respectable sixth place in the Premier League standings, securing an European place.
A lot of them played a crucial role in Chelsea’s positive end to the campaign. One of the players who stood out was Conor Gallagher. The 24-year-old is notably the first and only Chelsea player to feature in 50 games this season. The versatile midfielder was a vital part of their setup under Mauricio Pochettino. Looking back at the campaign, the English international is happy with the way Chelsea ended the season.
“It was a fantastic end to the season. I think we won the last five games and it’s a great achievement for us. Securing European football is also a great achievement considering where we were at, but the expectation at Chelsea is more than what we have achieved this season. Everyone knows that but considering the moment, it’s a great achievement,” Gallagher told the Chelsea website.
Even though it has been a roller-coaster ride for Chelsea in 2023-24 term, Gallagher can be happy with what he has achieved this campaign. “Personally, I think it’s been a successful season for myself. I’m really thankful to the fans for believing in me and showing their support throughout the season because it has helped me grow in confidence and perform the way we have, so I’m very thankful for that. I’ve scored a few goals which has been very nice,” he explained.
The midfielder added: “You can’t beat the feeling of scoring and I’m really happy that I’ve been able to help the team out because that’s the most important thing. I’m so grateful for the supporters. It means so much to me personally after such a difficult season last year. To show the love to me personally this season is such a nice feeling.”
