Ciro Immobile accident: Lazio striker involved in a car accident with a tram

Serie A side Lazio player and captain, Ciro Immobile, has recently suffered a horrendous accident and hence been hospitalized with injuries to his back and rib. The accident took place as he was driving the car and he was hit by a tram in Rome. A club statement said that he is being continuously assessed and examined at the Gemelli University Hospital. Photographs have been uploaded on social media by the local media which show his car badly damaged. It was a Land Rover he was driving and a number of police are present at the scene of the collision.

A statement was released by his club saying, “The medical staff of Lazio announces that today, following a road accident, the footballer Ciro Immobile reported a sprain trauma of the spine and the compound fracture of the XI right rib. Conditions are currently good. The player remains under observation at the Department of emergency medicine directed by Professor Francesco Franceschi of the Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS in Rome.”

The Italian striker was spending his day off after Lazio’s 3-0 win against Spezia on Friday in which he also scored. This accident will leave the Italian side in a grave deficit as Lazio is currently in second place and with the season entering the last phases they will miss their talisman very much for sure. Lazio confirmed that Immobile has suffered “sprain trauma of the spine” and a “compound fracture” of his right rib but is currently out of danger and that his “conditions are currently good”.

Sky Sports Italy later confirmed that Immobile was present with his two daughters in the car, and the Italian striker later told the police that the tram ran into him despite a red light. There were seven others taken into the hospital for checkups which also included tram passengers.

Immobile has scored a total of 10 goals in Serie A keeping his team in the hunt for the league title just behind league-leaders Napoli having and assured themselves a place in the Champions League, Lazio will try their level best to extend their lead in the second place. Immobile has been the main man in the front of the grid for his side and they will miss him in Saturday’s crucial away fixture against Torino in their next game.
