Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 2-0 to enter the FA Cup final. Ruben Loftus-cheek and Mason Mount’s second-half goals helped the Blues get past the Eagles at Wembley Stadium on Sunday and book a meeting with Liverpool on 14 May. After a cagey first half, loftus-cheek who had replaced injured Mateo Kovacic, produced a moment of magic to break the deadlock. And then, a few moments later, Mount doubled Chelsea’s lead and sealed the victory.

Chelsea controlled the game in the initial phase but had very little to show for the majority of ball possession. Meanwhile Kovacic seems to have twisted his ankle on the edge of the box and was substituted with Loftu-Cheek inside the opening 25 minutes.

After the half-hour-mark, Mount shoots over the bar from the edge of the area. Thomas Tuchel’s side is struggling to break down a well organised Palace defence. Meanwhile the best chance of the opening half fell to Cheikhou Kouyate as the midfielder’s volley was pushed away by Edouard Mendy.

The Eagles’ boss Patrick Veira made an early change in the second half, bringing in Jordan Ayew in place of Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Palace shifted to a 3-4-3 formation with Zaha deployed as the centre-forward with Ayew and Eze occupying the wings. Just after the hour-mark, Eze’s inswinging corner was shouldered just wide by Kouyate, who mistimed his attempted header.

Goals from Loftus-Cheek and Mount secure the victory

At the other end, Chelsea took the lead through Loftus-cheek on 65 minutes. Kai Havertz’ cross from the right hit Guehi and bounced towards the edge of the area. Loftus-Cheek ran onto the loose ball, twisted his body and smashed a shot that hit Anderson and went past Jack Butland into the back of the net. It was the 26-year-old’s first goal for Chelsea in three years.

Timo Werner played a nice little square pass to Mount just inside the area. The England international took it neatly in his strides, got past Anderson in the process and deposited the ball into the far corner. In response, at the other end, Anderson headed over from a promising position. The Blues stood firm to keep a clean sheet and secure the victory.
