Leicester put their nose in front on 19 minutes courtesy of a well-worked set piece. The corner is rolled along the floor to the near post, Perez gets flick and the on-rushing Lookman slots home from eight yards out.

After the goal, Newcastle started pushing hard for the equaliser and got it on the hour-mark. Guimaraes’ close-range shot was blocked by Leicester keeper Kasper Schmiechel, but the Brazilian poked home the rebound to make the score 1-1. The hosts finished the half on a stronger note, having registered six goal attempts since Leicester’s opener.

After the break, Newcastle continued from where it had left off, Saint-Maximin cuts across a couple of players but then fires wide from 20 yards out. Few minutes later, the Frenchman had another effort from an identical position, this time his effort went over the bar.

Leicester are clearly on the back foot and manager Brandon Rodgers makes the first change, James Maddison comes on for Perez on the hour mark. Newcastle defence is pretty solid and the the English playmaker is introduced to induce a bit more creativity into the Leicester attack.

Bruno Guimaraes’ winner

The Foxes continue to knock the ball around and have the majority of ball possession but Newcastle are pretty comfortable at the back and look more threatening on the counter-attacks.

Just when it looked like the game was heading into a draw, Guimaraes headed home in the fifth minute of injury time. Willock does superbly well down the left flank to get past Youri Tielemans. The Englishman’s deflected cross is met by a dramatic diving header from the 24-year-old midfielder.

It was Newcastle’s fifth straight home Premier League win and they have now moved to 14th spot in the standings with 37 points from 32 games. Meanwhile Leicester remained at the ninth spot with 40 points from 30 games.
