Following a mixed start to the new season, the momentum is finally changing in Chelsea’s favour. The Blues have overcome early wobbles to get two important results before the international break. Mauricio Pochettino’s side first overcame Tottenham Hotspur in an eventful Premier League away game 4-1. They followed it up by getting a valuable draw against Manchester City in a thrilling 4-4 draw.

While Chelsea are still some way from the top four positions, those two results would have undoubtedly eased the mood at Stamford Bridge and would have renewed their hopes of an unlikely Champions League push. Robert Sanchez is also hopeful that the team can push for a top four place. “It’s a young team. We need time to get to know each other, build relationships, know our strengths from different players, and that’s what we’ve been doing. You can see we are improving every game,” Sanchez, quoted by the club’s website, said.

It’s a big ask, but we have the spirit: Robert Sanchez

He added: “We are connecting and we’re feeling good on the pitch now. The fans can see the fighting spirit. That’s what we always talk about in the changing room, the spirit is building, and we are fighting and feeling we can win every game. We want to get nearer the top, to get into Europe, into the Champions League. It’s possible. It’s a big ask, but we have the spirit, the confidence, and the belief. We know the quality we have.”

The goalkeeper then spoke about the spirit the team showed during the come-from-behind draw against Manchester City in the Premier League. “We went toe to toe with them. We know how good we are on the counter-attack when we play quick and fast, and we did that and scored four goals. If we can do it against Man City, we can do it against anyone, that’s the message. We could have got more than a draw, but we are starting to get the points we deserve. Some games we’ve been unlucky, but it’s true sometimes you get a bit more of that energy inside when you play the big teams. The boys are doing great,” he explained.

It’s been a good week for us: Moises Caicedo

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s big-money summer signing Moises Caicedo was happy with the fight the side showed against City and even felt that they could have gotten more from the game. “We’re very happy with the performance of the team as Man City are a great side,’ Caicedo said when reflecting on Sunday’s dramatic draw with Pep Guardiola’s Citizens. ‘We gave it our best and it was a good team performance, but of course we would have liked to win the game,” the midfielder explained.

He added: “However scoring a penalty at the end to draw, it shows good character and I think it has to be considered a good result. We are growing as a team. We are working hard together, we are listening to the coaching staff and I think step by step we are improving every day. We are working very hard to improve as a team and it’s been a good week for us. We had an incredible win at Tottenham and even though we didn’t beat City, we put in a very good performance and showed we can challenge with these teams. We now have the international break but after this, we need to build on these levels of performances and push on from here.”
