It has been an eventful few months for Tottenham Hotspur. They suffered a major collapse in the Premier League last season, which saw them miss out on Europe altogether. After a detailed managerial search, in came highly-respected Ange Postecoglou. Since then, the club has been busy in the ongoing transfer window with both incomings and outgoings. While they had made some interesting new additions, plenty of their transfer news has been headlined by their star centre-forward Harry Kane.

If the latest reports are the be believed then Harry Kane is on the verge of completing a big money transfer to German giants Bayern Munich. Not the kind of news Tottenham Hotspur supporters would want to hear ahead of the season opener. However, their manager Ange Postecoglou will be keen to make sure that this development does not have any kind of effect on their start to the new campaign.

Will Micky van de Ven be available?

Even though the focus might be on Kane, there is an exciting development awaiting the Tottenham supporters. New signing Micky van de Ven will be available to play Brentford on Sunday in their opener. The defender, who had just recently joined the club from Wolfsburg, “looked bright in training,” according to their manager. “It’s good to get Micky in. He’s settled in well. It’s easy for me to say, but having just been through it myself, it’s not as simple as coming out and training, he’s got to settle off the field, as well, and all of these things take time,” Postecoglou was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

He added: “He’s looked bright in training. He’s had a pre-season at Wolfsburg, he hasn’t played 90 minutes yet, so, match conditioning-wise, he’s probably not at the level, but he’s definitely available for the weekend. He trained well today. We’ve got another session tomorrow and then in terms of team selection, I’ll make some decisions after that.”

Team news

The good thing for Tottenham is that they do not have any fresh injury concerns ahead of the season opener. The only ones to miss out are long-term absentees such as Fraser Forster, Rodrigo Bentancur and Bryan Gil. They will be joined by Ryan Sessegnon and Alfie Whiteman on the sidelines. “There are no real other issues. In the last two games, everyone has got through in decent shape. We had a couple of little knocks, but nothing that’s going to keep anyone out of the weekend,” he told SPURSPLAY.

He added: “We’ve got some long termers who won’t be available but everyone who played in the last two games against Shakthar Donetsk and Barcelona, apart from some minor knocks, trained today. There is no-one who will miss out from the guys who have been involved recently.”

The Tottenham manager also clarified that their striker Richarlison is fit for the contest. “Richarlison is fit. There are no issues with him. He didn’t play against Shakhtar, but he was never going to, to be honest. We were always going to play two different 11s and he picked up a slight knock in training. He got through the Barca game really well,” he explained.
