The World Cup Qualifying match between Brazil and Bolivia will take place at Estadio Estadual Jornalista Edgar Augusto Proenca on Saturday at 6:15 am IST.
Brazil kicks off their World Cup journey by hosting Bolivia in the first round of CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers. The Selecao are heavily favored against a team with one of the worst away records in international football, particularly when playing outside the high-altitude conditions of La Paz. With Fernando Diniz temporarily leading Brazil until Carlo Ancelotti’s reported arrival next summer, the objective is to give the Italian a strong start in their journey to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Following Brazil’s impressive performance but ultimately being outplayed by Croatia in the quarter-finals of the last World Cup in Qatar, Tite stepped down as the manager.
Brazil remains the only nation to have qualified for every World Cup to date, and they intend to maintain that record by continuing their impressive home form. They won all eight of their home matches in the Qatar qualifiers, with the exception of the abandoned 0-0 match against Argentina, which was never replayed. Since 2009, Brazil has only dropped two points in World Cup qualifying matches at home and still boasts an incredible record of never having lost a home qualifier in history since the format changed in 1998.
In contrast, Brazil faces Bolivia, a team that has long forgotten what it’s like to win an away qualifier. Bolivia hasn’t secured an away victory in World Cup qualifiers since their 7-1 thrashing of Venezuela back in 1993. Since then, they have played 64 away qualifiers, losing all but one. With seven qualification spots available in CONMEBOL, Bolivia’s chances of reaching their first World Cup since 1994 have significantly improved. That remains the only instance where they qualified on merit, as they were invited to participate in 1930 and 1950.
Brazil’s probable starting lineup: Alisson, Vanderson, Marquinhos, Gabriel, Caio Henrique, Casemiro, Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Raphinha, Gabriel Jesus, Neymar
Bolivia’s probable starting lineup: Lampe, Jose Sagredo, Quinteros, Roca, Diego Bejarano, Cespedes, Quiroga, Fernandez, Miguelito, Algaranaz, Moreno
