There is a lot happening for Liverpool in the ongoing summer transfer window. The Reds have been quite busy till now, with a few of their players already leaving the club. A lot of such alterations have been happening in the middle of the park. It is also there where Liverpool have signed two quality players. Alexis Mac Allister joined from fellow Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion, while Dominik Szoboszlai has joined from RB Leipzig.

Both midfielders are capable of playing in variety of positions across the pitch. Alexis Mac Allister is someone who can play in a deeper role as well as the advanced midfield position. The Argentine World Cup winner has earned a massive respect from several corners of the world following his impressive outings last season both for Brighton and national team. He will be one to keep an eye out in the coming season.

Alexis Mac Allister on Javier Mascherano

During a recent interview, Mac Allister spoke about another former Argentine international and Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano, who was a popular figure for both club and country. “Mascherano for us is a big player. He was very important to the national team, big character, so of course I watched him,” Mac Allister told Liverpoolfc.com.

He added: “We are not similar players, to be fair, but I know how Liverpool fans like that kind of game. It’s about a mix of everything. I try to be good on the ball but once we don’t have the ball I try to do my best to recover it. Hopefully, defensively, I can do a little bit like Mascherano. Maxi Rodriguez is another player that is Argentinian and was important for Liverpool.”

Even though versatility is a key aspect to Mac Allister’s game, the Argentine international is expected to operate largely as a No.8 this season. “It’s just a position. When you play football and you understand football, you can play wherever you want and that’s my idea. I try to understand football a little bit more every day. I feel it’s a position that I fit really well,” he explained.

‘It’s quite different tactical-wise’

He then spoke about Liverpool’s style of play and how he has been adapting to the team till now. “I watch football a lot and I know how this team plays. Everything is there. I think it’s a really good idea where the players can enjoy and play football. That’s what we will try to do. Maybe it’s not the kind of football that I was used to,” he added.

“It’s quite different tactical-wise and these kind of things. But, of course, if I came here, it’s because I spoke with Jürgen and I think the idea can fit me really well and I can fit into the idea. Off the pitch, everything was fantastic. And on the pitch, of course I need to keep learning and improving a couple of things that are maybe new for me. But I feel really good. The games that I’ve played, I felt good.”
