The game of the upcoming Premier League weekend will be at Anfield when an in-form Liverpool welcome a struggling Manchester United to their backyard. A game that used to light up the league in the past has lost its flavour in recent past, with Liverpool majorly dominating this fixture. Even last season, the Reds had registered a massive 7-0 win over their old foes on this ground. Liverpool will once again be the heavy favourites for this clash. However, the home side will have to deal with the absence of a key first-team player.

World Cup-winning midfielder Alexis Mac Allister will not be available for Liverpool in the crucial clash. With the Reds sitting at the top of the Premier League table, they would be keen to get the three points from this fixture to maintain their title charge. However, the injury to Mac Allister, who sustained it during the win over Sheffield United last week, will be a blow. Providing an update on the situation, Jurgen Klopp, quoted on the club’s website, said ahead of their Europa League contest against Union SG, “I am obviously not a doctor but they explain it to me pretty much every day why he is not ready yet and it is obviously a bit more tricky than we thought in the first moment.”

He added: “The other boy stepped on his knee and the stud went through pretty much the muscle onto the bone. And now we have to wait until the bone is healed and until Macca can deal with the pain, because it is pretty painful. Macca is actually a super-tough guy so we have probably to make sure just from an infection point of view nothing happens. That’s really important. I never had this injury for one of my players before but now we have it. I hope it will not take that long, I would like to say it’s day by day – but that would look like he could maybe play the next game but he will not be ready for that as well. So, I hope the next three or four days he makes big steps and then we will see.”

It will be interesting to see how Liverpool will approach the upcoming Europa League tie after already sealing the top spot in their group. “Look, we were a couple of times in this situation that we had to play the last game of the group stages [already qualified] but unfortunately not often enough as usually we have to go for everything and win it, in the past, in the Champions League, super-important games to get through the group stages. We are through and we were that in the past as well,” he explained.

The manager added: “It is really important you find a group who can really fight in a game, who can really go for it, because that is the job to do. We are physically in the situation to do that and from a determination point of view as well; I think we found that and I hope we can choose that line-up because you never know what happens overnight. The line-up in my mind, the line-up we used today in training, would mean we have a good mix between a bit more experience and youth. We want to go for it.”
