One of the many moving parts of the complex Curse of the Dreaming City, which engulfs the region in a three-week time loop, is Ascendant Challenges. If players are courageous enough to venture into the Ascendant Plane in search of treasure, each cycle of the curse—which ranges from weak to strong to strongest—brings players a tonne of treasure to hunt for.

There are six Ascendant Challenges in all in Destiny 2, and they are rotated weekly. They are a reliable source of Dreaming City gear, such as reissues of Tigerspite, Twilight Oath, and Waking Vigil. A piece of Legendary gear is awarded for completing an Ascendant Challenge, but if a player has Petra Venj’s weekly bounty, they can also receive an additional drop.

What does this week’s Ascendant Challenge in Destiny 2 entail?

Each week, one piece of equipment is obtained from Ascendant Challenges, and a second comes from Petra’s bounty. Players can obtain six pieces of Dreaming City gear from Ascendant Challenges alone because those goals are character-based. Players must consume an item called Tincture of Queensfoil, which can be purchased from Petra for 50 Baryon Boughs or discovered in chests all over the Dreaming City, in order to locate the entrance to the Ascendant Challenge. Although the Ascendant Challenge itself changes every week, each one will have a unique entrance that will always be in the same place.

  • Challenge: Forfeit Shrine
  • Entrance: Gardens of Esila

Find the Ascendant Challenge:

You won’t be visiting the Gardens of Esila this week purely for the view. This striking location houses the Forfeit Shrine Ascendant Challenge. Keep an eye to your left as you enter the Gardens of Esila from the Strand. When you get to the area with the first Hive enemies, take a sip of your Tincture of Queensfoil and look to your left, past a ledge, for the portal.

While Dreaming City gear was previously difficult to obtain, Bungie has made it easier to obtain them following their reissue and the addition of a few new elements to Destiny 2. On completion of the Blind Well, players will receive Dreaming City loot, and in weeks where the Shattered Throne dungeon is the featured raid, players will receive loot every time they clear an encounter. However, Petra Venj offers a weekly bounty for completing the Ascendant Challenge, which will give you an additional piece of gear in exchange for your trouble.

If you want to acquire Dreaming City gear through exploration, you should take advantage of this opportunity. Additionally, she will every week offer a bounty that costs Dark Fragments and rewards an Offering to the Oracle. You will receive an additional drop and, during the weeks when the Curse is most intense, you will be permitted to enter Queen Mara Sov’s throne room if you take the reward to the Oracle in the Spine of Keres. Also there, if you’re looking for Cursebreaker, you can find an Ahamkara Bone.

Additionally, every day check Petra’s bounties for a daily objective that also rewards gear, as indicated in its tooltip. If you have purchased the objectives from Petra’s inventory, completing eight daily bounties and completing her weekly quest will also net you Dreaming City gear. These are on a weekly lockout per character, just like Ascendant Challenges, so you can complete them more than once a week so long as you’re not using the same guardian.
