Since VALORANT is one of the biggest games in the market, executing such accuracy and team-based gameplay without unintentionally introducing bugs and glitches is extremely difficult. Players will report bugs on websites like Reddit and Twitter, but for a game that gets updates frequently, having an ecosystem that won’t affect the other main servers is crucial.

To provide players with an engaging and difficult environment in which to test their skills, agents are made weaker, weapons are improved, and bomb sites are altered. However, occasionally they’ll make a major update that may need a few minor adjustments here and there. Public beta environments (PBE) are useful in this situation. Players can test out new features, updates, and adjustments to the VALORANT meta in the PBE realm. Players will have access to the momentary VALORANT PBE once a patch is released. Players will have one weekend after each patch to test it out and see what needs to be changed. The VALORANT test realm opens on Friday at around 4 PM PST and closes the following Monday at about 11 AM PST once the dates are set.

Most patch updates start with a beta testing phase, but occasionally developers will forego PBEs. For instance, a PBE wasn’t present in the most recent public patch, 6.07. In a similar vein, Riot will forego the PBE patch in favour of two upcoming in-game updates, as planned.

On Friday, April 21, 2023, at 4pm PST, the VALORANT developers will host a new PBE and release new patch notes. This particular environment update comes after the brand-new, sizable patch Riot implemented at the start of this year. At least four or five days are anticipated for it to last. It will close on April 24, 2023, if the VALORANT developers follow their usual schedule.

The PBE previously opened on Friday, April 7, 2023, and closed on Monday, April 10, 2023. Players will be able to test out the new matchmaking Elo system, maps like Split or Lotus, and adjustments to guns that stand out in the meta in the next PBE.

PBE test environments are necessary for a game that can change at any time. It will put an end to issues that affect games and annoy the players who advance the meta. The last thing Riot Games wants is for one of their players to stop playing because of a glitchy game. Who knows, Riot might want to introduce a new revolver that annihilates the game, turning the community’s entire world on its head (looking at you CS:GO).
