After months away, Jimmy “Marved” Nguyen made his professional VALORANT stage debut this past weekend. Jimmy “Marved” Nguyen filled in admirably for Sentinels after star Tyson “TenZ” Ngo withdrew this week due to health issues, proving he hasn’t lost a step.

However, Marved’s performance was so strong that some Sentinels supporters believe the team should continue to start him in VCT Americas. Additionally, his post-game remarks suggest that he may want the former OpTic foundation to continue operating in the future. After Marved’s “here to stay” performance at VCT Americas, Sentinels supporters show their support for him:

On April 23, Sentinels defeated MIBR, and Marved thanked his supporters for sticking by him, concluding the post-game interview with, “I’m not washed. I intend to stay. Many people interpret his statement to mean sticking with Sentinels, even though he could simply be referring to his position at the top of the professional VALORANT player league.

Sentinels and NA VALORANT supporters frequently appear in discussions on various websites, including Reddit, where they suggest that the team performed almost too well with Marved to consider putting him back on the bench. As noted by VALORANT statistician Willminder, Sacy led the team in kills after switching back to the initiator, and Zekken won 61 percent of his opening duels after switching to duelist. Sentinels as a whole did perform better with him in the mix.

Marvel stated in an interview with Esports Illustrated that the Sentinels’ substitute offer appealed to him after taking a break after VCT 2022 because it “allowed [him] to have one foot in the door and one foot out.” Similar sentiments were expressed by the former Sentinels head coach Syyko in an interview with Dot Esports before his firing. Syyko claimed that after the first week, Marved “really wasn’t interested in being a starter.”

But a lot has changed since then, so Marvel may receive a full-time call-up for the remainder of the season. It’s entirely possible that TenZ decides to take more time off and may even decide to sit out the rest of the season due to his health problems and the extremely serious health issues that his partner Kyedae is openly experiencing. If Sentinels management believes the team has a better chance with Marved playing, it might not even be his decision.

Sentinels defeated MIBR on the same day that Cloud9 defeated NRG, moving them up to sixth place in the VCT Americas. Sentinels have upcoming games against teams like Evil Geniuses and KRÜ, so a playoff run is possible. Though it’s unclear which variation of Sentinels we’ll see during this run.
