In the spring of 2023, the anime will make its Netflix debut

The final season of anime will once again be directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East, Napping Princess), along with Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Harlock: Space Pirate, Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars). The anime is once more being produced in 3D CG by Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East, Napping Princess) and Sola Digital Arts (Appleseed Alpha, Starship Troopers: Invasion, Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars). To write the music, Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi are back.

The anime’s narrative, as given by Netflix:

The fabled “Giant of Light” (Hikari no Kyojin), who is thought to have returned home after battling the numerous enormous alien invaders, is now only a memory after several years have passed since the events of Ultraman. Shinjiro Hayata, son of Shin Hayata, appears to have a peculiar talent, and it is this talent—along with his father’s admission that he was Ultraman—that propels Shinjiro to serve as the next Ultraman and fight the aliens that have invaded Earth.

13 episodes of the first anime season were released on Netflix in April 2019 worldwide. After that, in April 2020, the series had its television debut in Japan. In April 2022, the second season of the anime launched on Netflix in every country. For the second season, the same creative teams from the first one—Kamiyama, Aramaki, Production I.G., and Sola Digital Arts—were involved.

Due to his absence from “all entertainment industry activities” during the past year, Tatsuhisa Suzuki offered to resign from the role of Ktar Higashi/Ultraman Taro, the new Ultraman character set to debut in the second season. Instead, the character is voiced by Tomoaki Maeno. Suzuki sang the opening theme songs for the first season while a member of OLDCODEX.
