Tuesday saw the debut of a brand-new Wit Studio anime short titled “The Dog & the Boy” (“Inu to Shnen”) on Netflix Japan’s YouTube page. The clip includes backdrops built by AI (based on human-created concept art and final touch-ups). The clip was created by “Anime Creators’ Base” on Netflix. In September 2021, Netflix opened the base at its Tokyo office. Designers Namiko Ishidate and Saina Cisse are working in the new base’s “Designers’ Garage,” which is a space intended to support artists as they make conceptual art.

In order to create the WIT Animator Academy and train future animators, Netflix teamed up with Wit Studio and Sasayuri Video Training Center in February 2021.
