The first news starts with New Cast Members Announced for Evangelion Stage Play; May Opening Four new cast members have been announced by the Evangelion Beyond staff, the stage adaptation of the Neon Genesis Evangelion series. The play plays from May 6 to May 28 in Tokyo, June 3 to June 4 in Nagano, and June 10 to June 19 in Osaka.

Kabukicho Tower in Tokyo will host the show from May 6 until May 28. The drama will be the first live performance at the newly opened Theater Milano-za in that structure. The drama will thereafter be presented on June 3–4 at the Matsumoto Performing Arts Centre in Nagano and on June 10–19 at the Morinomiya Piloti Hall in Osaka. Production of the play is handled by business giant Tokyu and its subsidiary Tokyu Recreation Co., Ltd. On April 28, the play’s promotional campaign for Evangelion Kabukicho Impact will start.

The following actors are part of the cast (seen above in order from top left to right; name romanizations not confirmed):

• Masataka Kubota as Sōshi Watamori

• Shizuka Ishibashi as Yū Mizuho

• Nijirō Murakami as Tan Hasumi

• Tetsushi Tanaka as Masatsugu Sogō

The structure is located where the theatre Shinjuku Milano-za once stood where the recompilation movie Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth was shown. The climactic scene in the movie Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion famously used footage from moviegoers. The stage performance is being directed and choreographed by Belgian stage artist and director Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. The script was written by Seiji Nozoe.

The fourth and final instalment of Hideaki Anno’s Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy, Evangelion: 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon A Time (Shin Evangelion Gekij-ban:||), debuted in Japan on March 8, 2021, and took the top spot in the country’s box office during its first weekend. In Japan, the movie earned more than 10 billion yen (about $74 million). For the “final run,” the new Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 version of the movie debuted in June 2021. The story of the movie has not changed, however, the new version does include “small modifications” to some animation scenes. In August 2021, the movie made its global debut on Amazon Prime Video.

The movie Evangelion: 3.0+1.01: Thrice upon a Time (Shin Evangelion Gekij-ban:||) was shown by GKIDS on November 30 in a few IMAX cinemas in the United States. The movie was then shown in theatres around the country on December 6, 8, and 11. The movie will eventually be available on home video through GKIDS.
