Even with all of these layers of clothing on, he still feels the chill. As Ray looks about for fuel, he comes across a peculiar tree. As the snow worsens, he begins to think about making camp.
Despite its odd appearance, he decides it will do for a fire. But then the tree begins to speak, much to his astonishment. He sees a Dryad, a spirit of the woods, and realizes that there is more to the tree than meets the sight. The Dryad is first hostile to Ray because of the presumptions he makes about her and questions his divinity.

In Chapter 69 of “To Hell with Being a Saint, I’m a Doctor,” Ray, the protagonist, travels to a snowy alpine region. Even with his magic and heated clothes, Ray still feels the chill. The current extreme weather is something that Ray has not experienced before. Ray would like to light a fire, but he is out of firewood. It’s becoming late, and the snowstorm is picking up, so he may have to stop and set up camp.
The strange tree he finds seems like a good fuel source, so he uses it. The tree, however, eventually communicates to him and urges him to release his grip. It turns out that the local tree is actually a woodland spirit called a Dryad. Since Ray thought the tree was a monster, the Dryad is upset. When pressed on whether he is godlike, Ray replies that he is a Saint with special abilities. Ray wants to know more about the power dynamic in the Dryad.
Ray contemplates this since he knows the forest elves place a high value on Dryads. He thinks he can win them on to his side and convince them to stay away from him while he searches if he plays his cards well. It’s possible that Zeke needs power, but the Dryad has no idea how to impart it. Since Ray expected the Dryad to ask for help, this development has caught him off guard.
