League of Legends’ ever-expanding roster recently received a new champion named Briar from Riot Games, the company that created the hugely popular game. Due to her special ability kit, there was anticipation and excitement around her release. But soon after Briar made her debut on September 13th alongside LoL Patch 13.18, it became clear that she was having trouble in both pub matches (open play) and ranked formats, with a pitifully low win rate. Riot Games Addresses Briar’s Low Win Rate with Emergency Hot Fix in League of Legends Patch 13.18

Riot Games quickly addressed the community’s concerns by releasing a rapid fix that included an emergency buff for Briar. This action sparked some discussion, with some players arguing that it would be prudent to exercise caution when buffing her excessively because her initial bad performance may have been caused by players who were still getting to know her subtleties. This article will examine the Briar emergency hot fix in League of Legends patch 13.18 in depth, examining the changes and Riot Games’ justification for them.

Understanding the Situation:

Due to her fascinating ability kit, Briar’s entry into League of Legends was eagerly anticipated. However, as soon as she was released, her win rates drastically decreased, leaving disappointed fans in their wake. Players found it difficult to fully utilise her special skills, which had a negative impact on performance in both pubs and ranked games. In order to address the situation and guarantee Briar’s sustainability as a champion, Riot Games realised that immediate action was required.

The Emergency Buff:

The League of Legends community has come to rely on Riot Games to be responsive, therefore they wasted no time in correcting Briar’s poor win percentage. The hot fix intended to improve Briar’s performance was announced on Twitter by Riot Games’ Lead Champion Designer, August “August” Browning, on the evening of September 14. August emphasised that the buff was made to offer Briar more fortitude when things went south. He also acknowledged that if players improved their use of the champion’s powers, her potential will probably grow.

The Buff Details:

The hot fix introduced several adjustments to Briar’s abilities, aiming to enhance her effectiveness in battles. Let’s take a closer look at the changes:

Base Stats:

HP: Increased from 590 to 610

E: Chilling Scream:

  • Damage Reduction: Raised from 35% to 40%
  • Cooldown: Reduced from 18 to 16 seconds

When Briar escapes from her W ability, Blood Frenzy/Snack Attack, Chilling Scream is a key component of her toolkit. Briar obtains health regeneration and damage mitigation while charging. When the scream is released, it slows the target for a brief period of time and delivers damage dependent on the charging time. The scream can knock enemies back when it is fully charged, stunnng them and doing more damage when they hit a wall.

The Impact:

Briar’s win rate still has issues despite these changes; according to U.GG, her win percentage in the jungle is 34.43% and in the top lane is 31.69%. It’s crucial to remember that these statistics only apply to players in League of Legends ranked matches at the Emerald and above levels; outcomes in lower MMRs (Matchmaking Ratings) may differ.

Riot Games thinks the benefits Briar will receive from the hot update will give her the extra resilience she needs in team fights and one-on-one confrontations, even if they may not be viewed as game-changing. Additionally, it is anticipated that the champion’s win rate would naturally increase as players get more adept at understanding her powers.
