Summoning Ragnarok The battle between the Greek god and the king of Sparta resumed in Chapter 80. The last chapter just laid the groundwork for their personalities in this world and their potential conflicts with one another. It was clear from their opening statements how the contest would go down.
Apollo is the classic narcissist: he has a strong female following but will not tolerate criticism. And in the last chapter, we witness that strategy in action as he battles Leonidus without directly confronting him. And Leonidus was his polar opposite, relying on a shield and spear to engage the deity head-on, but the god always managed to avoid them.
When it came to actual fighting, Apollo was more agile and thus had the upper hand. Leonidus was badly lacking in this quality, yet his tenacity kept him going. However, the Spartan warriors were unhappy with the way the battle was proceeding because they believed Apollo was being a coward and avoiding a direct confrontation.
In Chapter 81 of Record of Ragnarok, Appolo will shift his strategy and go toe-to-toe with him, demonstrating his ability to satisfy a large audience. Knowing that the court as a whole believed Apollo to be hopeless in a fair fight, he decided to employ this strategy. Not only did Spartan troops have faith in this, but so did the gods in the Colosseum.
Not happy with the general audience’s recognition, he fashioned his clothing into a weapon better suited for close-quarters battle. Since the spartan excels at close-quarters combat, this strategy may not be the best. But to Apollo, it makes no difference. Instead, he is willing to take chances in order to gain the respect of those around him.
