The game got new maps but on an irregular basis, which means players had no clue of when to expect a new location in the game. However, Overwatch 2 might be changing that culture for the fans.

After Overwatch 2 came out on October 4, the developers are releasing a new map every season. During the seasons where no new map is pushed, players will be receiving a new hero instead. Shambali Monastery, otherwise known as Shambali, is the game’s upcoming map. It will be released for players today, December 6. The map should come across as a familiar place for players who have been playing the game since the original title. The map has a similar appearance as Nepal, a launch Control map from the original game in the popular franchise.
Shambali is significant for characters including the new hero Ramttra and Zenyatta, both of whom spent time in this location as monks under Mondatta. The map packs some of Nepal’s major highlights such as the classic large statues of meditating Omnics.
Shambali is an Escort map, which means players will either need to push a payload that has important cargo down a long path or prevent it from moving forward if they want to secure a win. The map offers a lot of edges and turns, so players will be required to stay focused and sharp to look out for enemy teams hiding around corners and setting up assaults.
As of now, there isn’t a lot of information available about Overwatch’s next map. The devs haven’t shared any information about what players can expect to happen in Shambali.
It’s possible due to the alternating seasonal release structure of heroes and maps, the new map could come at the start of season 3. Blizzard has plans to roll out additional modes and heroes in the coming days. It’s likely that the next map that comes to the game could focus on a mode that doesn’t even exist in Overwatch 2.
