Players have been hoping to finally obtain one for a certain auto rifle ever since Destiny 2 released retroactive catalysts for its library of vintage exotic weapons in recent years. The tragically useless bayonet under the barrel of the Monte Carlo has never been fixed, despite the fact that it has been a potent weapon since its introduction.

However, a material made public today via a weapons preview blog in advance of the premiere next week indicates that’s going to change in season 22. Not only does Monte Carlo finally receive a catalyst, but it also provides the precise catalyst that players were waiting for by enabling the gun’s bayonet to work. The catalyst, which will finally enable Guardians to skewer their opponents for catastrophic melee damage, is said to be “mechanically the most complex” that Bungie’s developers have ever created.

One of Destiny 2’s oldest exotic weapons receives a brand-new, incredibly complex catalyst:

“We finally did it,” the blog triumphantly reads, with the announcement of the Monte Carlo catalyst pinned to the top of the section on Exotic weapons. “It was mechanically the most complex catalyst we have ever done, requiring a host of custom animation work and a lot of things we have never done on a weapon before, but we hope you enjoy it.”

There is a video that is attached to it that demonstrates the new catalyst in action inside the Duality dungeon. According to the video, it seems to need a toggle, and that toggle might not be accessible until the Monte Carlo intrinsic Markov Chain stacks have completed their computations. The tremendous 116,000 damage dealt by the bayonet blow against one of Duality’s Nightmare Bellkeeper opponents makes it possible for it to easily eliminate most PvE enemies.

A different concern is whether it will actually make a difference in terms of Monte Carlo’s standing in the PvE meta. However, for those who already use the auto rifle, the inclusion shatters the dream of the weapon’s strength.

The new catalyst for Monte Carlo grabs the attention, but there are more changes to weapon catalysts that will be made in season 22 of Destiny 2. A minor modification to the Two-Tailed Fox catalyst causes the third rocket it adds to the magazine to fire in the magazine after the second rocket rather than simultaneously. Following Bungie’s observation that the weapon’s performance “was just a little bit off,” this is done in an effort to better fit the “Three Tails fantasy.”

In Season of the Deep, the exotic scout rifle Wicked Implement was introduced. Its catalyst has already received a buff that gives it the Headstone perk in addition to its other advantages. Bungie acknowledged that it took a “conservative approach” with this weapon when it was first released, but that Headstone in addition to the additional capability to activate Tithing Harvest by eliminating Stasis Crystals should make the experience of doing so simpler.

When season 22 and these adjustments go live on August 22, players will be able to experience them. In order to share additional information about the season and the impending expansion, The Final Shape, Bungie will host its annual Destiny 2 showcase on the same day.
