Season of the Haunted, the most recent PvP map for Destiny 2, was released more than a year ago. The feeling that the Crucible is on life support has long been discussed among the community, and now players are beginning to take matters into their own hands.
Today, the Destiny 2 subreddit has seen a lot of interest in an impressively authentic-looking Halo Infinite Vex-themed Forge creation. Cold Snap is the kind of PvP map that fans of Destiny 2 have been clamoring to see from the game itself, featuring an original map layout centered around well-known teleporters and verticality. However, recently Bungie hasn’t frequently committed resources to such content in an official capacity. Under the post, one user jokingly wrote, “We are so desperate for maps that we are making them in other games.” Many other people in the thread also share this opinion. Disjunction, a Crucible map set on Savathun’s Throne World, was initially released in May 2022, and due to its underwhelming reception, many players have been suffering through an agonizing wait for additional maps.

To highlight how scarce PvP content has become, consider that Shadowkeep was the last expansion launch to include any new Crucible maps at all. Not everyone is convinced that Destiny 2’s developers are still able to support both the PvE and PvP environments of the game equally.
Another response to a commenter who was upset that Halo Infinite received a Destiny 2 PvP map before Destiny itself simply said, “Because Halo is a mostly PvP game.” Another user agreed with them, pointing out how the community reacts poorly to the idea of “having to do” PvP in Destiny 2 in order to obtain some items. He continued, “It’s no wonder Bungie doesn’t invest more time into adding more into a mode that gives poor feedback.”
The upcoming season of Destiny 2 will include a brand-new original Crucible map, which is teased to be set inside the Vex Network that Season of the Splicer introduced. Other than that, Bungie has only attempted to keep the Crucible playlists fresh by re-releasing older maps from the original Destiny and the Destiny 2 content vault. By no means has content creation completely stopped, but as u/Ashen8th notes, “Halo gets a map with a Europa theme two and a half years [after Beyond Light] while Destiny still has zero plans to add one.”
