Naruto Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Release of Four New Episodes in Original Anime Series

On Thursday, the official website for the Naruto anime franchise announced that four new episodes of the Naruto television anime will be airing in September to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary. The original Naruto anime series premiered in Japan in October 2002. In addition to the new episodes, selected earlier episodes of the Naruto anime will be rerun in Japan starting in July. To commemorate the 20th anniversary, Studio Pierrot, the animation studio behind the Naruto anime, released a “Road of Naruto” video in October. The video condenses the 20-year history of the Naruto anime into a 10-minute clip, featuring brand-new animation footage.

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Naruto franchise, the official Twitter account for the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime revealed three new visuals for the Naruto anime in October. The Naruto franchise includes multiple television anime, anime films, and original video anime. The original Naruto television anime aired from 2002 to 2007, and its sequel series, Naruto Shippuden, premiered in 2007 and ended in 2017.

Following the success of the Naruto franchise, Ukyō Kodachi and Mikio Ikemoto launched the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations sequel manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in May 2016. The manga ran monthly in the magazine and later transferred to Shueisha’s V Jump magazine in July 2019. Masashi Kishimoto, the original author of the Naruto manga, took over as writer of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga in November 2020.

The Boruto: Naruto Next Generation’s television anime premiered in April 2017, with Viz Media simulcasting the series on Hulu as it airs in Japan. Crunchyroll is also streaming the anime, and the anime began airing on Adult Swim’s Toonami block in September 2018. Viz Media is releasing the anime on home video. As of March 26, Part I of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime will come to an end, with Part II already green-lit for production. Fans of the Naruto franchise are eager to see what new adventures await Boruto and his friends in Part II, as the Naruto franchise continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
