Chapter 255 of Kengan Omega, titled “Otakemaru,” continues just where Chapter 256 left off, in the middle of the battle between Kure Raian, Willem Wu, and Sean Wu. Urging his named nodachi, Otakemaru, to quench its hunger for war, Kure Raian draws it from its sheath. Even though Willem finds it impossible, he amazes his opponents by simultaneously wielding the scabbard and the enormous blade. But Sean warns against naively thinking Raian is weak, admitting that the Kure clan’s strongest member was Raian.
Confidently pronouncing his opponents doomed the moment they set eyes on him, Raian laughs. Raian and his dying grandfather, Kure Erioh, had an emotional interaction two years ago, as shown in a flashback. In his last moments, Erioh begs Raian to outdo Edward Wu and forewarns of Howard Wu’s impending domination. He tells Raian to find the unexplored mountains of Tohoku and become master of the enchanted sword Otakemaru, which is drenched in blood.
The fight picks up again in the present, and this time Raian uses Otakemaru to his maximum potential to vanquish his enemies. As Raian slashes Sean’s head during the struggle, Sean dies, and Willem’s wrath boils over. As a result of his Superman Syndrome and Guihun 100%, Willem is able to engage, breaking the nodachi’s sheath. During the ongoing battle, Willem manages to fling Otakemaru out of Raian’s hands by using his axe, but this unexpected move catches Raian off surprise.
