‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc,’ – Episode 2 Review: Tanjiro’s Training and Quest for a New Sword

The second episode of Demon Slayer Season 3, titled ‘Swordsmith Village Arc,’ continues Tanjiro’s journey to find a new sword that can help him defeat demons and save his sister Nezuko. In this episode, he encounters Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and a young villager named Kotetsu while searching for the legendary secret weapon in the Swordsmith Village.

A Test of Strength and Character

As Tanjiro and Muichiro cross paths, it becomes clear that the latter doesn’t consider the former a legitimate equal. Tanjiro, who defeated the Upper Six demon, has to prove himself once again. However, Tanjiro’s character shines through in the way he supports Kotetsu, who is struggling to control his mechanical doll, Yoriichi Type Zero. The doll, which was created by Kotetsu’s family based on the legendary Demon Slayer Yoriichi Tsugikuni, has six arms that mimic Yoriichi’s combat style.

Through this, we see Tanjiro undergo some brutal training with the Yoriichi Type Zero, which serves as a test of his strength and character. While Kotetsu acts as his guide, he is clearly unequipped to do so. The comedic moments in the episode, while mostly well-executed, take away from the weight of this training exercise for Tanjiro. While he learns an important new technique to fight stronger and faster enemies, the importance of it feels like an afterthought.

Inspiring Moments and a Balancing Act

Despite the occasional comedic distractions, the episode has plenty of great traits on display. Tanjiro’s caring nature and determination to push through insurmountable odds in order to save his sister are always inspiring to watch. His support of those who are often looked down upon is one of his best character traits.

Overall, the episode offers a good balance of action, character development, and humor. However, the series could benefit from a better balance of comedy with more serious moments before things start to feel tiresome.

Conclusion

The second episode of Demon Slayer Season 3 offers an engaging and entertaining storyline that continues Tanjiro’s quest to find a new sword. While the comedic moments may take away from some of the more important moments, there are plenty of inspiring and heartwarming moments that make up for it. Fans of the series will enjoy the character development and the introduction of new characters, while newcomers will find it easy to follow along with the plot.
