We have all been there! Returning to a game only to be stopped by an error that stops us from enjoying the game. Players returning to CS: GO or the frequent ones trying to jump straight into action right after a patch can sometimes come across an error that says: “VAC unable to verify your game session.”
If players are coming across the same error, they shouldn’t worry, as their account hasn’t been banned by Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC). The error message just means that VAC wasn’t able to communicate with their account properly or verify that the anti-cheat is activated.
At the moment, it’s unclear why this error appears, but it can happen during server outages, during Steam or maintenance of the game, or some other time. If VAC fails to verify, it doesn’t mean players will be able to use cheat codes. Matches won’t launch without verification. Fortunately, the solution is pretty easy.
To do so, players need to completely exit the game and relaunch Steam. When Steam restarts, players need to check and ensure there isn’t a new update they are missing out on.
If that’s not the case, players should go to their Steam library, right-click on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and select properties that can be seen at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Once done, players need to choose Local Files and select Verify Integrity of Game Files. After a few minutes, this will validate their files and start their game. If things go as intended, “VAC unable to verify” error won’t appear in the game yet again.
Before players load up the game, they should ensure to restart Steam again just to be safe. If the error persists, players should try reinstalling CS: GO. It might be a tedious process and could take longer than players would hope, but a fresh start of the game will make sure VAC is installed as well, which should eliminate the issues.
If game file integrity verification and reinstalling the game don’t work, players might have to contact Valve about their account since something on the company’s end could be affecting their account’s ability to get VAC verification.
This should players’ last resort, as the aforementioned methods should fix the “VAC unable to verify” error.
