After seeing Komao and Zabu at home for a little while, Matakara took his savings and left silently. After encountering Arajin on his travels, Matakara went on his own because Arajin was too reluctant to engage in conversation.
Matakara sought refuge at the Honki temple, but a shadow, symbolizing his own frailty and want to run away, followed him there. Despite Ichiya’s suggestion that adopting him would remove the shadow, Matakara was still doubtful and had a hard time getting past his flaws.
Friends, according to Ichiya, only support the weak and go in the way of the great, so Matakara should cut ties with them. The reliance Matakara had on Arajin, he said, was his Achilles’ heel.
Senya showed that she and Ichiya had trained together to become Honki People the day after, hinting at a shared past between them. Matakara showed hesitation to hurt Arajin during their brief confrontation, which irritated Ichiya.
The situation escalated when Ichiya taunted Matakara, leading him to lose control of his anger and maybe even facilitate possession, as tensions grew. At the same time, Arajin found out that Senya wanted to possess him, which led to many fights.
