After a thrilling last episode, Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Episode 17 release is much anticipated by anime fans. Based on the name of Manga Chapter 552, “The Fundamental Virulence” is the title of Episode 16. Three chapters from the manga, chapters 552, 553, and 554, are adapted into this week’s episode. This should be making you quite suspicious at this point. This episode is significantly longer than usual because of the extra material created just for the anime medium. Several new battle scenes between Isagi and Yumichika can only be seen in this episode. Not to mention the Bankai premiere of Shinjihirako, which has been eagerly awaited.

Previously in Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Episode 16

The episode opens with a scene showing a number of lieutenants engaged in battle with the Quincys. I find it completely crazy that the characters in Lieutenants’ Tear are having to fight against the story’s non-player characters, but I do think it helps set the tone for how significant this arc will be. Also, for whatever reason I don’t understand, we get a brief review of the time when Bazz-B vanquished Hitsugaya and damaged our tiny captain.

And with that, we return to Hisagi, where he is desperately trying to outrun his apparent pursuers. It’s insane that after becoming much stronger during the Arrancar Arc, characters who battled against and overcame them are now suffering with Foot Soldiers.

Bankai is back

This is a great example of the vast power difference between Quicy’s Army and the Arrancar Army. The scene shifts back to Bazz-B, where Cang Du has suddenly appeared, claiming that he must be the one to kill Hitsugaya. Cang Du takes control and immediately triggers Hitsugaya’s visually stunning Bankai. The way the sunlight interacts with the ice particles streaming from his Bankai’s wings is just stunning. Next up, we have some content from the end of Chapter 551, which also appeared at the end of last week’s episode. This is basically Urahara informing Mayuri that he has figured out how to get back the lost Bankai.
